Amsterdam is a great city for those who want to make the most of their cheap weekend holiday.

The shops in Amsterdam will be especially attractive to those who are interested in antiques, diamonds, books and curiosities. For the most the shops are open 1-6 pm on Mondays and 10am-6pm Tuesday to Friday. Late night shopping until 9pm is on a Thursday, early closing at 5 pm on a Saturday. You’ll also find that some supermarkets stay open until 10pm. The best places for shopping ona Sunday are the shop in the city centre, Damrak, Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat, and near the Noorderkerk.

Amsterdam has a number of different quarters each with their own special character. Although some shops may appear small they may in fact have their own importing contacts which means that they can get whatever you want from anywhere in the world. This makes shopping a tiny bit more interesting than the usual trudge down the high street in Britain. Amsterdam’s compact size means that within a couple of days you can get your way round all of it shops- great!

Dam Square is perhaps the best place to go to look for cheap Amsterdam shops. Virtually all the department stores and malls are located within easy walking distance of Dam Square. Shops and malls to look out for are Magna Plaza ( Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal) Kalverton (Kalverstraat) and the De Bijenkorf (Dam Square).
